Sheriffmuir Standing Stones and the last one of the year.

I'VE DONE IT

I've done 374 walks (more than one some days), only  missed 3 days through illness so had some to spare and every one of the walks was different.

We parked at the Sheriffmuir Inn and headed to the Standing Stones. There is a row of 5 and only one is still standing. They are in the area to the right of this road we walked up.

It had been raining all morning but it stayed dry while we were walking

My Wonderful friends Bernie, Jo (me), Shona, Andrea, Sue. Bridget, Alison, Jill, Sophie and Sally (taking the photo)

A BIG THANKYOU to Pete for the blog and being so encouraging and supportive all year. Its a fantastic record of all the walks.

Standing Stone, Stirling University

I was determined to find the Standing Stone near Stirling University today.

I headed in the direction where I thought it would be

Ah..... found it. Its near Airthrey Castle

It's bigger than I thought. A lot taller than me

It was a cold walk today, although I was all bundled up cosily.

Dunblane by the river

A little walk in Dunblane today. This is the old Stirling Arms which has been renovated into the Riverside

I  took the walk beside the river

past the old gas works

This is a stone to mark the Bleaching Green

Other villages have a Drying Green but ours is a bleaching Green

One clothes pole left

The path beside the river is closed due to subsidence

Gathering Stone, Sheriffmuir

A really, lovely walk today with Sally to one of her favourite places. She had attended a recent meeting about changes they want to make to Sherrifmuir to encourage more people to use the area, including a building at the Gathering Stone?

I love this track. I haven't walked along here for a few years

This cairn marks the way to the Gathering Stone

The Gathering Stone which is a prehistoric standing stone. It was in cased in metal in 1840. It is said this is where the Jacobite army raised its Standard prior to the Battle of Sherrifmuir in 1715.
There are some circular trenches nearby which are thought to be practise trenches during World War 1 and 2
