Plean Castle

A brilliant walk today from Plean Village to Plean Castle. I parked by the Balfour Centre and walked along the A9 towards Falkirk for about quarter of a mile

I found a finger post which points down this road towards the castle

At the end of the road past the farm is this track. There were loads of butterflies

The path disappears after this, due to a road being built for the Beauly to Denny power line. I walked to the left and found the path again.

The track goes under the Motorway up to a gate which I needed to climb over. The castle was in the distance.

This is the field which I had to cross over to the rail bridge. It was a bit scary as I didn't know if there were cows or bulls nearby but luckily none today.

I love this picture

The castle was a ruin until the 1990's when the Wright family from Glasgow restored it. I remember seeing it for years covered with scaffolding. They have made a wonderful job. Its possible to stay there for a holiday.

I set off to return the same way back to Plean. The whole walk took an hour and a half.

This interesting house was nearby
